de vez em quando aparece um disco que "encaixa" de uma maneira perfeita nos nossos gostos. aconteceu há precisamente um ano com o disco "what the night delivers", de scott matthews; acontece novamente agora, com este "believers", de aa bondy, antigo vocalista da banda grunge verbena. o "aa" do nome representam as iniciais do cantor (augeste arthur), que enveredou por uma carreira a solo em 2007, adoptando outro nome artístico (o anterior era scott bondy), bem como uma sonoridade muito mais suave e calma, trocando o grunge pelo indie folk. "american hearts", lançado em 2007, foi o primeiro trabalho a solo do cantor, seguindo-se-lhe "when the devil's loose", em 2009. em setembro de 2011, surgiu este "believers", um disco perfeito para uma noite de insónia, suficientemente intimista para nos embalar estrada fora, pela noite dentro, com as mãos nos bolsos, a contemplar a noite. o site "all music", a propósito, descreve assim o disco: "and for 2011's "believers", bondy's music has crept further into the darkest hours of the early morning, conjuring up a sound that lurks somewhere between consciousness and a dream; these ten songs are full of elusive magic and bondy and his collaborators have made an album that's long on mystery but satisfying enough to make it worthy of repeated investigation; you're not likely to hear a new album that sounds better after 1 A.M. than this anytime soon". por sua vez, o site "the line of best fit" termina assim a sua crítica ao disco: "believers is the exciting sound of a remarkable songwriter finding his own, genuinely unique voice; a masterful album of arresting details forming a cohesive, hugely compelling whole that’s so much more than a sum of its impressive parts".
há algo de hipnótico neste album, como uma viagem interior ao coração da mais negra melancolia, às raízes da solidão nostálgica e contemplativa. "believers", apesar de muito homogéneo, atinge o seu ponto alto no final, com as duas últimas músicas (rte.28/believers e scenes from a circus) a fundirem-se de uma forma perfeita. e como não consigo dizer isto de uma forma mais perfeita, volto a recorrer ao site "the line of best fit": "the road-weary beauty of ‘rte 28/believers’ eventually blooms into a slow-motion second movement that’s like a ray of tentative early morning sunlight peeking through the impenetrable darkness of night".
