este é, até ao momento, o melhor disco de 2009, para mim. jason lytle, vocalista e mentor dos grandaddy, banda californiana responsável por excelentes discos como "the sophtware slump", "sumday" ou "just like the fambly cat", apresenta o seu primeiro trabalho a solo, com este "yours truly, the commuter", um registo notável, não muito distante do universo "grandaddy" (ainda bem!), repleto de grandes canções, como "i am lost", "yours truly, the commuter", "this song is the mute button", a belíssima "furget it", "brand new sun", "ghost of my old dog", "birds encouraged him", e as quatro músicas finais do disco, que criam uma atmosfera pungente, própria de despedidas: "rollin' home alone", "you're too gone", "flying thru canyons" e "here for good". sim, eu sei, são quase todas, mas este é um daqueles discos que se ouve de início ao fim, sem saltar músicas, porque é um todo, uma fabulosa viagem ao mundo de jason lytle, a mente criativa responsável por uma das bandas que mais gostei de ouvir na actual década. o site all music guide fala deste disco nestes termos: "yours truly, the commuter is a gorgeously atmospheric record, a panorama of lush california landscapes filtered through the lonely lens of winter air and rural, mountainous terrain. there's a familiar mix of electronics and acoustic instruments here, but they're linked together more discreetly than before, with gauzy reverb and softly overdubbed harmonies smoothing out the gaps between both camps, where orchestral strings and light, bedroom-whisper vocals create the sort of intimate symphony that Lytle so easily conducts. the drawl of his voice may be a poignant reminder of grandaddy's early days, but yours truly is more cohesive than many of those past albums, a comforting hybrid of west coast beauty and stark, isolationist expanse that bodes well for his solo career".
